Ingredients required for preparing the chocolate cake:

  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1 and ¾ cups of flour (including some extra for dusting)
  • ¾ cups of cocoa powder
  • 1 and a ½ tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 and a ½ tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract

  • 1 cup of reduced-fat milk
  • 1 cup of hot water or hot coffee

Other necessary requirements:
  • A large mixing bowl
  • A wooden spoon
  • A hand mixer
  • A toothpick
  • A cooling rack

Method of preparation:

Step 1: Preparing the oven and pans – Heat the oven to a temperature of 350 degrees Farenheit. Grease the two baking pans with softened butter and lightly dust the pans with flour. Set them aside.

Step 2: Preparing the chocolate mixture – The flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt needs to mixed and stirred together in the large mixing bowl until they are thoroughly combined.

Step 3: Making the chocolate batter – Crack the two eggs and mix them with the concoction in the large mixing bowl. Add milk and the vegetable oil and beat on a medium speed for one or two minutes until smooth.

Step 4: Mixing the vanilla and the hot water or coffee – Add vanilla to the chocolate batter and beat slowly for one minute. Then pour the hot water or coffee and mix well.

Step 5: Bake the cake layers – Pour equal amounts into the pans and bake the mixtures in the oven for around 35 minutes.

Step 6: Toothpick test – Insert a toothpick into the cake; if it comes out clean, without any crumbs sticking to it, the cake is ready.
